Indian supporters campaign for the release of Panchen Lama

New Delhi: April 25: On the occasion of 18th birth anniversary of 11th Panchen Lama, under the banner of Youth Liberation Front for Tibet (YLFT), Indian Tibet support group from Katehwara lead a peaceful rally at 11:00am from Ram Lila Maidan to Jantar Mantar to press Chinese government for the early release of the Tibetan spiritual figure.

After crossing over Ranjeet Singh flyover via Tolstoy Marg, the marchers were joined by other Tibetan supporters and Tibetan youngsters at Jantar Mantar who had been there on strike for the last 10 days for the same cause.

The group further proceeded towards Parliament Street but, was barricaded by the Police within the Jantar Mantar premises.

Mr Narendra Chaudhary, president of YLFT, called for quick release of the Panchen Lama and demanded Chinese authority to have earnest negotiation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

At 03:00pm, Dr Mahesh Yadav, Mr Narendra Choudhary from YLFT and Friends of Tibet (FOT) hand delivered their respective memorandum to Chinese Embassy, UNHCR, UN Office and Prime Minister Office of India.

At 06:00pm the candle light vigil started with the lighting of candles by the Tibetan Parliamentarians and joined by the representatives of various Indian Tibet supporters. Program ended at 08:00pm with concluding speeches by Dr Mahesh Yadavji and Dr Raghuvir Singh of India-Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS).

Following are the common demands put forward by the groups

We call upon the Chinese authority to:
1. Disclose the whereabouts of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gendun Choekyi Nyima.
2. Immediate release of the young Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima along with his parents and to allow him to his religious training and spiritual education as per Buddhist tradition.
3. Release Chadrel Rinpoche and Jampa Chung from imprisonment and allow them to perform their duties.
4. Stop violation of Human Rights inside Tibet.
