Tel Aviv: April 25: A unique peace-march leading up to the Chinese Embassy demanding the release of the 11th Panchen Lama, gendhun Choekyi Nyima, was held here today.
43 Tibetans students currently studying in Israel and joined by Israeli supporters took part in the march.
The event seeking for the immediate release of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, recongnised by the Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama, started at 4:00pm from Robin Square and ended in front of the Chinese Embassy located in the Israeli economic capital, Tel Aviv.
Gendhun Choekyi Nyima who turned 18 today has been in Chinese captivity since 1995 after he was recognized by the Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of the 10th Panchen Lama, who died under a mysterious circumstance in 1989.
The programme was organised by IFTIP (Israel Friends of Tibetan People). Israel Students for a Free Tibet and Dharma Friends of Tibet were the other two groups involved in the event.
“It is the first pro-Tibet activism ever held in the Middle-East region,” Mr Lobsang Dhondup from Israel informed Phayul.com. “We are very grateful to our Israeli friends for initiating the event and supporting our cause with full determination,” Mr. Lobsang adds.
