Dharamshala, April 2 – Denouncing media reports on the security threats to the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, the Deputy Inspector General of Himachal Pradesh Police, North Range, Dharamshala said that there was no such threat.
Speaking to ANI this evening, DIG P.L. Thakur said, “We have read this news. We have geared up the security of the Dalai Lama as precautionary majors, but we have no confirmed definite inputs from security agencies”.
The DIG has ordered an inquiry into the reports regarding the security threat of the14th Dalai Lama.
There is reportedly security threat to the 72-year-old Tibetan leader by militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Tibetan government-in-exile is not ready to comment on this issue. The security of the Dalai Lama includes the special security persons of Tibetan security department in inner circle of the Dalai Lama, while the outer cordons of the residence is under the security of a company of Himachal police led by a DSP rank officer.
The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibetan Buddhism will turn 73 this July. He was awarded Noble Peace Prize in 1989.
