Toronto, March 7 – Every morning the organizers for the “Free Tibet Action Week” came early to put up the canopies without the shelter and set up His Holiness’s throne. It was the fourth day and more and more supporters poured in to show their determination to work towards a “Free Tibet” and support for the participants and Toronto Tibetan Youth Congress.
The harsh weather did not succeed in stopping our peaceful demonstration however it played a crucial role in reminding us of those Tibetan refugees who face this kind of hardship every day and has brought more confidence and encouragement within us. It was a challenge for everyone. Today, there were 48 Tibetans gathered, the number doubled compared to the 2nd day of the “Free Tibet Action”. We anticipate many more before the countdown comes to an end. In addition, the Queen’s Park being a tourist spot, we were able spread out our words and handed the petitions to be signed to the visitors from different part of the world.
During the course of the weeklong action week, there have been numerous sponsors in making this event possible. Their generosity was incredible and will always be cherished. On the fourth day, there came several Tibetans who brought breakfast and snacks to all the participants; two UofT students dropped by with coffee and tea as well. It was amazing to see how concern they are about the Tibet’s cause despite the fact that they are in their youths.
The Tibetan Women’s Association of Ontario (TWAO) served lunch for everyone. The president of TWAO, Ms. Tsering Norzom la expressed her hearty thanks on behalf of TWAO to the participants and Toronto Tibetan Youth Congress for organizing the “Free Tibet Action Week”. She mentioned that solidarity of TWAO is always with us. She also stated, “As told by His Holiness, each and every Tibetan who eats Tsampa has a responsibility to work for the cause of Tibet”. Therefore, every Tibetan has a responsibility to shoulder political activities such as this week long action campaign. Hence, whoever organizes such activities, we all represent the voiceless Tibetans inside Tibet and every one should support to regain our fatherland from the Chinese occupation. The president of Tibetan Culture and Preservation centre (TCPC)Mr.Thupten Monlam la came to show his solidarity as well.
From the start till the end of the day, everyone prayed and listened to the recorded speech of His Holiness which encouraged and inspired all the participants to endure and sacrifice for the just cause of Tibet.
The day ended with the announcement of the contributors for the action week in which the names kept growing. Mr. Phurbu Tsering, Chairman, expressed his appreciation for the generosity and support received from the donors and the participants. The day concluded with the singing of the Tibetan National Anthem.
