March 10th is a day of remembrance for any Tibetan on this planet. It is on this day in 1959 in Lhasa when thousands of Tibetans from all walks of life rose up in strength and resisted the Chinese occupation of our homeland. It is also on this day that China shamefully feared the Tibetan people, though unorganized then as it might be argued, could challenge the very foundation of their illegal occupation. In the ensuing days, 87,000 defenseless Tibetans were massacred by the so-called “People’s Liberation Army” who were armed with the latest semi-automatic machineguns and backed-up by sophisticated air-power.
This year’s March 10th commemoration in the San Francisco Bay Area will begin with intensive protest from March 4th, Monday onward. There will be protest every day in front of the San Francisco Chinese consulate from 1 pm- 3 pm. Afford to intensify Chinese outreach in the Bay Area is one crucial point covered in this year’s commemoration. The Silent March through San Francisco China-Town on March 10 itself is a special afford to educate the Chinese masses the gross human rights violations in Tibet and the critical state of Tibetan way of life.
With March 10th, we remember with commitment and confidence those brave patriots who stood up for justice. We pay tribute to their sacrifices that echo the pangs for freedom. On this day, we pledge again not to forsake our brothers and sisters enduring the Chinese oppression. No mater how much heavy the wave of Chinese repression may sweep across the plateau of Tibet, the rocks of Himalaya will withstand its impact and people of Tibet will endure to victory. No matter how many times the Chinese undermine the Tibetan people’s love and respect for the Dalai Lama, our history, religion, way of life and our course of freedom and democracy, China will have to give up and leave our land. On March 10th , we openly challenge the Chinese authority over the inhuman disregard of our fundamental sentiments and for staging propagandas against everything Tibetan. On this day, we condemn the Chinese policy of assimilation and eventual extinction.
On this March 10th, those of us who live in freedom and have a responsible voice for those silenced in Tibet will speak in dignity to the world — on their behalf. Our slogan is clear again – “So long as injustice remains, Tibetan people will live to fight.”
Join us for this Week of Action, Silent March from San Francisco Downtown to China-Town and protest in front of the Chinese consulate on March 10th.
