PRESS RELEASE

Tibetan Association of Southern California (TASC) will felicitate Lhakpa Tsering la for his courageous action taken November 23rd 2006 for the cause of Tibet during Hu Jintao’s visit to India. The ceremony will be part of the 36 hour fast that will begin on March 9th at the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles and end on March 10, 2007 at Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica. All participants will donate their two days meal cost towards feeding the less fortunate people in Los Angeles. As an effort to strengthen the two days event TASC will collaborate and coordinate with Los Angeles Friends of Tibet and SFT, Santa Barbara chapter.

When we saw the chilling pictures and video of the young Lhakpa Tsering la attempting to burn himself in Mumbai; it reminded us once again the sacrifices of many who have selflessly contributed to the cause of Tibet. A unanimous decision was made to organize a fund raising event which raised about $800 to help Lhakpa Tsering la towards his recovery. It is a meager amount for his bravery, yet a sincere gesture by ordinary Tibetans of Southern California to let him know, he’s not alone.

A certificate of appreciation will be offered to Lhakpa Tsering la which says to all those who have done so much for our cause that, we do remember them.

This year TASC will mark March 10th anniversary as a day to remind ourselves ‘THE TRUE SPIRIT OF MARCH 10TH 1959’, which was to show unequivocal support to our beloved leader H.H the 14th Dalai Lama by ordinary Tibetans.

May H.H the Dalai Lama live long and his wishes be fulfilled.

Tibetan Association of Southern California.
