New York, February 15 – Animal activists protested before the Chinese Embassy in Brussels on Tuesday. The demonstration was to condemn China of the brutal treatment of animals to produce fur. Despite heavy downpour activists from Dierenleed Azië, Animaux en Peril (animal shelter) and Bite Back Belgium held banners and campaign posters, and raised slogans against China.

The demonstration took place at a busy street thus enabling several passersby to join the protest. An activist said that protests at the Embassies in Belgium draw a little attention from the media but that they will continue to protest irrespective of media attention. “That is why we also carry out our demonstrations around business centers where animal fur is sold,” said Marianne Huiberts of the Bite Back Belgium.

Police told the activists that the Chinese Ambassador was not in office. Activists say that the Ambassador goes out whenever there are demonstrations. They say that Tibet Support Groups hold protests on a regular basis and the Ambassador is out of office on those days too. “But we heard that the Ambassador seeks report of every demonstration so we hope we get heard.”

Several people in Turkey, Brazil and Israel also took to the streets in protest of the horrific treatment meted out against animals in China.
