Kathmandu, January 5 – According to a reliable source, all the Tibetan web blog articles related to the famous Tibetan author Woeser and uploaded by anonymous bloggers have been allegedly removed by the webmasters of Tibetan language websites in Tibet upon receiving orders from Chinese authorities.
According to our respondent, the Police Department of Mingyang City of Sichuan Province, on 7th December 2006, ordered the web administrators to weed out all blog articles related to author Woeser that are published on Tibetan websites in Sichuan Province. The host server then informed the webmaster of a Tibetan website to take out all articles related to author Woeser that were uploaded by bloggers. The Tibetan website was shut down for about 2 hours that day and after agreeing to the conditions of the authorities their site was activated again. The web master of the Tibetan website made an announcement the next day to all their users and bloggers about the order from the Police Department and apologized for any inconvenience caused, and informed them to refrain from uploading any improper materials for the safety of the website and the bloggers. However, the webmaster did not mention what an improper material meant. Our respondent told us that the improper materials or articles are all those related to author Woeser.
Tibetan author Woeser who primarily writes in Chinese is well known for many famous books like ‘Sergye’ about Culture Revolution. Recently two of her websites were shut down by Chinese authorities.
