1st All India Tibetan Students Conference

Day 1

Tibetan Students Association Mangalore organized the 1st All India Tibetan Students Conference here in Mangalore.The function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His Excellency Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche at 8:00 a.m. and it was followed by a welcome speech by the president of RTYC Mangalore, Tsewang Rigzin. The Guest of honour Mr Kalsang Phuntsok, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress addressed the gathering. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche too addressed the gathering and was pleased with the number of students that had showed up for the function. There was also a Photo session for the delegates with the dignitaries.

Session 1

The topic for the first session was the present situation of Tibetan’s in Exile and Middle Way Approach. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche made the opening remarks on the said topic at 10:15 a.m. He spoke on where the present Tibetan population dwell and Tibetan’s being termed as foreigners in India and not as Refugees. He said that the present generation should not forget that they got the chance of getting educated. Students should develop a rational mind through education and must not be influenced by others and that every view point should be first analysed by them and they should be self civilized.

Middle Way Approach was adopted 25years ago by the Tibetan Government in Exile. He explained about the origin, aims and principles of this approach.

There was a Question And Answer session between the delegates and Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche and it was followed by a discussion among the delegates.

Session 2

The next topic which was discussed was about the Story of Tibetan Freedom Struggle and the changing picture of world politics at 2:00 a.m. Mr Kalsang Phuntsok, president of the Tibetan Youth Congress shared his views with the delegates. He said that the struggle for independence is not enough and needs more effort and that the struggle for independence has no end. Youth must develop confidence to pursue their goal and should be far sighted. The freedom struggle cannot be only one sided and Tibetans should be aware about the political changes within China. He said that the struggle is a long term struggle and that no one can be forced to participate in it unless they do it willingly.

This was followed by a Question And Answer session between the delegates and Mr Kalsang Phuntsok and it was followed by a discussion among the delegates.

The function ended with a panel discussion among the delegates, which ended at 7:30 p.m.
