Nine monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in south India took part in their latest round of four-month European Tour from 22nd August to 12 December 2006. Their tour was organised by the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery UK Trust, a British charity established in 2003, which aims to create better understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and to raise funds toward the work of the monastery in south India.

In 2006, the monks conducted two rounds of European Tour during which they performed in England, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Romania and Scotland.
The monks visited more than 100 different major venues including schools, art centres, museums, theatres and festivals.

In addition to their public performances on sacred monastic Cham dances, the monks gave workshops on Tibetan arts, led meditation courses and introduction to Tibetan Buddhism.

The main aim of their tour is to create better understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and their culture through practical workshops. Whilst in the UK, the monks also took part in cultural events organised by Tibet-related organisations.

After successfully completing their 2006 European Tour, the Tashi Lhunpo monks will return to Europe in May 2007 as part of their World Tour.
