MYSORE: To mark the 58th World Human Rights Day, more than 200 members of the regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Bylakuppe took out a rally here on Sunday and urged for an end to human rights violation in Tibet.
The protestors began from Town Hall and marched through the thoroughfares like K R Circle, Devaraj Urs road and others. They demanded that the United Nations institute an independent investigation into the killing of Tibetans, who were fleeing Chinese repression at Nangpa pass on Sept 30, 2006.
The renewed violation and crimes against Tibetans, their harassment and detention goes against Chinese promises to improve human rights in the run-up to the Olympics, they said.
The members of the two organisations reminded China of its commitment made during the elections to ratify a peace treaty. Women and youth, who shouted slogans against the Chinese asked for an immediate end to the violation of the fundamental rights of the Tibetan people and to give respect to their aspirations.
Geleck Juney, Samten Chodon and others led the protest.
