Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) held a press conference at the Indian Women’s Press Corps in New Delhi today. It was particularly for the Indian media to highlight Tibet’s issue and bring more news about Tibet in the forefront. Host of Indian media personnel were present along other few audiences.

TYC General Secretary Mr. Tsultrim Dorjee and Information Secretary for TYC, Mr. Dhondup Dorjee addressed the conference where as Mr. Vijay Kranti, a prominent Indian Journalist and an ardent supporter of Tibet also made his presence.

Mr. Dhondup Dorjee introduced the crucial reason behind this press conference. He said that such formal Press Conference was conducted due to the weak and inadequate response towards Tibet’s issue from the Indian media over the past few years. He further briefed about the major events that has been taking place at different places of the world to protest Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to India in the coming days.

Over 30 years of friendship with Tibetans, Mr. Vijay Kranti left no stone unturned to talk to the media personnel present there. He had once said, ‘By supporting Tibet I am supporting my own country, India’. Mr.Vijay Kranti has visited Tibet twice and being a fine photographer he has captured many faces and facts about Tibet in his canvas which is indeed very pathetic.

‘China’s aggressive statement over Arunachal being a part of China and demanding Indian government to dissolve Tibetan Government in Exile has been incredibly impolite. China has legitimately no status to declare an Indian territory as part of their mainland’ Mr. Kranti told media.

While Mr. Tsultrim Dorjee highlighted the recent attack on the Nangpa Pass, where a 17 year old nun was killed by the Chinese Border Patrol and 33 of which are still under detention. These killing of unarmed Tibetan refugees expose yet again that the reality of China’s rule in Tibet is far different from that of the picture painted by the Chinese.

Indian media plays a very important role for the Tibet issue and Indian press as a whole has been very supportive, infact very sympathetic towards our cause. History tells us that Tibet remained as a good neighbor of India and there are evidences of spiritual affinity and integral cultural ties. Moreover public trust has a deep reverence and respect for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. However with time, this web of goodwill seems to loose its grip. Thus such Press Conference can only make Indian Media recall back their true friendship with Tibet.

Tibetan Youth Congress, while strongly condemning the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India, firmly believes that the Government of India, while dealing with Chinese delegates will not tale any measure that may go against the historical truth and the aspiration of the six million Tibetans living in and out of Tibet.
