Some 50 Tibetans and Tibet supporters gathered on November 3 for one hour in front of the Brandenburger Gate in Berlin to protest against the killing of Tibetan refugees on Nangpa-La Pass.
“We can not tolerate the repetition of refugees being shot dead and therefore call upon the German Government to strongly condemn this crime and in her bilateral relations with the PR China to emphatically demand the adherence of human rights” said Petra Zörner of the Regional Chapter Berlin, Tibet Initiative Deutschland (TID), which organized the vigil together with the Regional Chapter Potsdam.
The Chinese Government said that the killing of two refugees on September 30 was in self-defence and defended this brutal action. But the film which the mountaineers have taken prove otherwise and has made it very clear to the public that human rights violations perpetuated by China is indeed very grave.
Hundreds of Berlin tourists took note of the protest and many supported our demand that the host country of Olympic Games 2008 can and should not be allowed to violate the main principles of Olympic Charta of peace and friendship.
“The people in Germany know all too well how a totalitarian state misuses Olympic Games for propaganda purposes. Such historical events should under no circumstance be permitted to repeat itself” Petra Zörner went on.
The IOC continues to ignore all protests and demands of human rights groups and flagrantly neglects her duty to call upon China to cease all human rights violations and guarantee unrestricted freedom of speech and press.
