HAGOROMO, Japan, November 4 – The well-known Tibetan vocalist, Pasang Dolma, is on her first tour of Japan. She is accompanied by Toshi Kuga, a New York based aficionado of Tibetan classical. So far the Japanese-Tibetan duo has performed in Kyoto, Fukuoka, Saga, and Kumamoto. They have made guest appearances at two TV stations and two radio stations. According to reports sent by the artists, performances by the pair is drawing considerable interests among Japanese audiences, who have compared Pasang Dolma’s voice to that of a goddess who has the power to “purify minds.” The tour is in progress upto November 13. They will next tour Tokyo, Gunma, Saitama and Nagano.
Pasang Dolma, is a well-known vocalist and a current member of the prestigious Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, Dharamsala, India. She is the 2003 Winner of Best Female Vocalist Award given by the Tibetan music website musictibet.com. She had previously performed in Canada and Switzerland.
Toshi Kuga is well-known in the New York Tibetan music circles as a dedicated and a serious student of Tibetan classical music credited with inspiring a new generation of Nangma-Toeshay enthusiasts. In 2005, Toshi toured Japan with Techung and Chemey Yudon.
This is the first time that Pasang Dolma and Toshi are touring together.
