Shimla: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will consecrate a Buddha temple at Rampur, 135 km from here, on October 28.
The ceremony, to be attended by the Chief Minister V B Singh would coincide with the 2550th anniversary of the “Maha Parinirvana” of Lord Buddha.
Rampur had historic significance as it is believed that Buddhism spread from here to the whole of the tribal Kinaur and Spiti areas.
The consecration of the historic temple would add another monastery to the itinerary of tourists and scholars interested in Buddhism, an official spokesman here said.
