Dharamsala: 10 October 2006: SFT’s (Students for a Free Tibet), a week-long the 8th Free Tibet! Action Camp is due to kick start here from today and will last till 16th of this month. This is the first such gathering ever organised in India.
According to the official website of the organization, the action camp is expected to bring together nearly 100 people, including many young Tibetans, as well as Indian supporters and a handful of trainers and volunteers from Europe and North America for intensive activism training.
SFT was founded in New York City in 1994 by a group of Tibetans and young students and supporters. The organization is a chapter-based network of young people and activists around the world and works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom and independence. One of the primary roles of SFT is to empower and train youth as leaders in the worldwide movement for social justice
Dharamsala, located in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is the base for the Dalai Lama led Tibetan Government in Exile and home town to thousands of Tibetans seeking political refuge in India.
