India Tibet Coordination Office in association with the literature Department of Hindu College, University of Delhi organised a poetry recitation on the situation of Tibetan in exile and on the life of refugee, at Hindu College on Tuesday, 19 September 2006. With the initiative of Mr. Tenzin Yeshi, student of English Literature Department, Hindu College.
The student of Hindu College got an opportunity to listen to the two young Tibetan poets about their plight and life as a refugee and home away from home, which was expressed in their writing. The two Tibetan poet were Mr. Buchung D. Sonam, poet/writer and Mr. Tenzin Tsundu, writer, poet and activist.
Mr. Tenzin Tsundu recited his few poems like Refugee, Losar Greetings, Exile House, Monsoon rain of Dharamsala etc. from his book KORA, which is compilation of poem and short stories. He presented the life of Tibetan refugee and the longing desire to return back to the country he belongs. He even dwelt with the identity crisis Tibetan are experiencing.
grass on the roof,
beans sprouted and
climbed down the vines,
money plants crept in through the window,
our house seems to have grown roots.
The fences have grown into a jungle,
now how can I tell my children
where we came from?
Mr. Buchung D. Sonam presented his book Conflicts of Duality. In his poem he express the feeling of separation from ones own land and describe the pain of life in exile and how much he miss the snow, which let him remember, “Let’s go back home”
In the heat of Indian summer
Butter sculptures melt
Could gods send cold waves?
Oh how we miss the snow
Let’s go back home.
After the poem recitation student flooded with the question on life in exile and hardship Tibetan refugees are expensing and what will be the future of Tibet. Student appreciate the touching poem presented about the life of Tibetan in Tibet and in exile.
