The Seventh Pawo Thupten Ngodup Memorial Basketball Tournament was held on September 9 & 10 at Williamsburg Community Indoor Facility in Brooklyn, during which 8 men’s teams took part. Out of state teams included the teams from Boston and Connecticut.

About 300 spectators mostly youth cheered and witnessed the two days matches with full enthusiasm and civility. The preliminary matches were played on the first day and the finals were held the very next day. This year’s men’s championship trophy went to the Boston team and the runner-up spot was bagged by Lungta team of New York. Mr. Gyatso, one of the Hunger Strikers of 2004, also an executive member of the current RTYC of NY & NJ was given the honor of handing out the trophies to the winners and the runners-up of this tournament. The winners of this tournament received medals, citations, and cash prizes

This year’s tournament like last year also went very well without any untoward incidents. The outstanding code of conduct exhibited by the players and the spectators/fans during the two action-packed days is indeed a matter of great pride and laudable. The only thing lacking was teams from women. We had two women teams last year but there was none this year. We still would like to encourage the girls to come forward and participate in this kind of tournaments.
