New Delhi, September 4 – The 37th Working Committee Meeting Of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) was held in Tsering Dolma Hall, Tibetan Homes Mussorie in the valley of Uttranchal from 27th to 31st August. This five day meeing saw the presence of more than 100 participants from the members of various regional Tibetan Youth Congress to discuss and declare the upcoming events.

The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) is a worldwide Organisation of Tibetans united in the common struggle for the restoration of complete independence for the whole of Tibet, which includes the tradition three provinces of U-Tsang, Do-toe and Do-med. This independent and largest Tibetan-run organisation has a written constitution and its own plans and programes.

According to the Voice of Tibet (VOT), the President of Tibetan Youth Congress (Mussorie) Mr. Dawa Tsering said, “ the chief guest for the meeting Kaguy depung chok highlighted on the consistent work and activities performed by the Tibetan Youth Congress and considered TYC as one of the largest and most active non- governmental Organisation of Tibetans in exile.”

Mr. Dawa Tsering also said, “the speech underlined three basic points in respect to the importance of educating every single person in the society for a better and successful nation. Secondly, TYC must always remain active in its force with clear disciplines as it is one of the major organisation which has enhanced the Tibetan national cause to some extent. Thridly, the intensity and deepness of the History of Tibet has lots to say about the independent nation that Tibet was before the Chinese invasion.”

Also present at the meeting was Mr.Tashi Phuntsok, General Secretary of Tibetan Homes Mussorie who also added few lines. He said, “our support for TYC has always been there and will ensure our continuity. He also stated that the organisation must stick to their clear aims and objectives since it has served as a catalyst to bring out certain reforms and changes within the Tibetan community.”

Accordingly, the meeting concluded with 34-point resolution after variuos discussions and debates. TYC saw the importance of organising activities against 2008 Olympic in Beijing. The day when International Olympic Committee (IOC) gave China the license to organise 2008 Olympic, it marked a black day for the Tibetans. Since then the Tibetans in exile as well as inside Tibet have been working selflessly to make the world realise this as a big blunder. TYC is urging the world’s sports fraternity to support the Tibetan Freedom struggle by demanding the IOC to change the 2008 Olympic venue.

“Another important issue discussed in the meeting was the well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”, TYC’s General Secretary Tsultrim Dorjee told Voice of Tibet. The political and spiritual leader of a country in jeopardy, whose fearless devotion to nonvoilence earned him world fame. But the growing fame has made Chinese insecure and therefore they may stoop to any sordid act. Therefore TYC prepares to amend proposals for the safeguard of His Holiness the Dalai Lama during the meeting.

Founded on October 7, 1970 in Dharamsala with His Holiness the Dalai Lama delivering the inaugural address, today the organisation has more than 30,000 members worldwide. The founding of TYC in 1970 came at a time when the first group of young Tibetans who had received modren and traditional education were graduating from school and colleges. So far, this has helped strengthen the Tibetan people’s struggle for independence.
