The Chinese government will quadruple medical supplies to its soldiers stationed in occupied Tibet and other areas to combat high-altitude sickness, a July 24 Xinhua report on China’s official People Daily website said.
Based on the Sunday edition of People’s Liberation Army daily, the report said medical aids to each of soldiers and officers sationed in areas of 3,000 metres above sea level has been raised to 255.28 yuan (about 31.9 US dollars) per year. The previous standard of medical aids to soldiers and officers was 34 yuan and 126 yuan respectively, the PLA daily had quoted sources with the General Logistics Department of the PLA as saying.
In addition to providing the soldiers with portable oxygen suppliers, the Chinese military authority will also provide a new
skin care product to help soldiers prevent excessive ultraviolet radiation. The military hospitals for army in Tibet will also be supplied with a series of facilities to handle emergencies. The increased medical supplies will reach the army before September.
China’s high altitude army are mainly stationed at occupied Tibet Autonomous Region, western Qinghai Province, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the southwestern Yunnan Province.
