Dharamshala, July 12 : A special two-hour prayer congregation on Monday afternoon, here at the hub of the exile Tibetan administration mourned the sudden death of Dr. M.S. Verma, the secretary of the Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA)an autonomous organisation established by the Indian government in 1961, which at present directly manages 30 of the 80-odd Tibetan schools across India and Nepal.
Along with Mr Kuntia, the Joint Secretary (SE) of the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development, who is also a member of the governing body of the CTSA, Dr Verma was on visit to the Central School for Tibetans in Mussoorie, when he passed away Saturday, 8 July, at about 6:30 p.m., while en route to hospital after suffering a sudden “gastric pain”. He was 62 years old.
“We will always remain grateful and indebted to late Dr Verma ji for his most effective and timely leadership in administration of the CTSA”, the exile Education Department conveyed in a condolence message to his son and three daughters.
Speaking to the TibetNet, the secretary of the education department, Karma Gelek Yuthok, said that as soon as the shocking news reached them, they requested His Holiness the Dalai Lama to pray for the peace of the deceased soul and, made various votive offerings at the Tsugla Khang.
“The demise of Dr. Verma is a huge loss for the Tibetan schools”, people and the administration, Ven. Yuthok said, adding, “In just few years, he has solved many pressing problems of the Tibetan schools. Besides, many new works initiated by him are in progress at present”.
