Kathmandu, July 3: The Department of Immigration, Nepal today deported 3 Tibetan men to India. They were arrested 20 days earlier at Thankot Police Check Post on the edge of Kathmandu Valley along with 6 other Tibetans while traveling from India to Nepal without carrying any valid travel documents. An Immigration officer was also sent along to escort them to the Indo-Nepal border of Bhairahwa/Sunauli.

The other six Tibetans from India were released the next after they paid fines but the three men could not pay fine and had to stay in prison at Dillibazar, Kathmandu for over 20 days. They were released and deported today after the Domey Kyiduk (Domey Welfare Association) of Kathmandu paid their fines. The three were originally from Sangchu County, Kanlho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province. They had come to Nepal in January 2006. The Tibetan Refugee Transit Center had sent them to India according to normal procedure. They sought an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and had later joined Sogar School for newly arrived Tibetans but they could not pursue studies well as they were adults in their twenties wll past school-going age, so they left the school and decided to return home in Tibet but they were unlucky and were arrested by Nepal Police. They still wish to return home but they don’t have any choice at the moment as they are deported to India but they hope for a better luck next time.

Many Tibetans face similar problem every now and then while traveling between Nepal and India, some get away by paying money but some are not so lucky; it would be good if Tibetan authorities try to find a legal way to solve this problem that the Tibetans have been facing for over 40 years now.
