Orientation workshop for newly-elected Exile Tibetan Lawmakers

New Delhi, 5 June 2006: The New Delhi-based Tibetan Parliamentary & Policy Research Centre began its orientation workshop for the new members of the 14th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies on 3 June 2006 at Dharamsala.

The weeklong program will include sessions on familiarizing the new members on the provisions of the Charter, Procedure of the House, Policies of the Government, the Present Status of Dialogue with the People’s Republic of China, the Democratic Functioning, Fiscal position, Budgeting and Education system of the Tibetan Government in Exile.

Participants will also be taken on a guided tour to all the departments and offices of the Central Tibetan Administration during the course of which, they will be introduced to the staffs of the various departments and Offices.

The purpose of the workshop is to orient new members with their responsibilities as representatives of the people and empower them for better participation in the House and thereby becoming effective and responsible Members of Parliament.
