Tibetans in New York observes 47th Women’s Uprising Day

Coordinated by Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of NY&NJ, about 100 Tibetans gathered in front of UNO despite the bad weather, Tibetans in NY came in full force to commemorate the 47th Anniversary of National Tibetan Women’s Uprising day on March 12,2006. Candle light vigil was held to honor those brave women and men, who laid down their lives in front of Potala Palace on March 12,1959 against illegal occupation of Tibet by the Chinese. The statements from the Tibetan Women’s Association in Dharamsala was read out. Later on Tibetans marched to the Chinese Mission, where Tibetans had a rare chance to demonstrate in front of the Chinese dignitaries gathering for a conference amidst tight security by New York Police Department(NYPD).

The peace rally ended by chanting Dentsi Molam, National Anthem and Thank You note from President Karma Choezom la.
