OMAHA, Neb. – Immigration authorities said they were not dressed in riot gear when they arrested a group of Tibetan monks in Omaha.

Six monks face deportation for allegedly violating their visa. They told KETV NewsWatch 7 on Friday that they did not realize they were in violation of immigration laws, and they’re willing to leave the country voluntarily.

The case is in immigration court.

The monks’ host told KETV NewsWatch 7 that when the monks were arrested, agents were dressed in riot gear. On Monday, the immigration service said its members were in regular uniforms, and they wore bulletproof vests when the monks were arrested.
