BEIJING – An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale shook an uninhabited part of China’s Tibet region today, the Tibet seismological bureau said.
The quake hit an area in Zhiduo county that lies near the border of Tibet and the northwestern province of Qinghai.
‘The epicenter of the quake was in an area that is uninhabited’ some 660 kilometers northwest of the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, an official at the bureau, who declined to be named, told Agence France-Presse.
‘So far we have received no casualty or damage reports,’ he added.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the quake occured at 10.19 am.
