Dalai Lama’s Envoys Return

Mungod, Karnataka, February 23 – The delegation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama headed by Special envoy Lodi Gyari has returned to India after a visit that lasted about a week.

According to a report by the Dharamshala based Voice of Tibet, a radio service funded by Norwegian Tibet Committee, the delegation would arrive in India today.

The delegation had landed in Beijing on 15 February.

The radio service quoted Thubten Samphel, the spokesperson of the exile Tibetan government, as saying that the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama would be arriving in India today.

Samphel also said that the envoys will brief His Holiness about their visit and meetings with Chinese counterparts on February 25. The envoys will also brief the Kashag (exile cabinet) Chairperson and Vice chairperson of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies (exile Tibetan parliament) after the Tibetan New Year (Losar).

Meanwhile, Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche was optimistic about the visit even before the delegation’s departure from India and also while it was in China. Talking to reporters in Australia, the first Kalon Tripa to be directly elected by people said he that the fifth visit of the delegation would hopefully bring concrete results.
