New Delhi, February 9 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday said that the Tibetan Buddhism and culture has benefited the world in many ways and that it is perhaps the only thing that the Tibetans can be proud of. His Holiness was speaking at the inaugural function of the conference of four religious traditions and Bon at the institute of higher Tibetan studies at Sarnath, Varanasi.
“Material development alone can not help achieve peace and happiness, and more and more people are seeking refuge in Buddhism”, His Holiness said.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama also said that all religious traditions should work towards benefiting the entire sentient beings and not just restrict to philosophies.
The Tibetan leader said that all Buddhist traditions must follow the great scholars of Nalanda who had left remarkable legacy of Buddha’s teachings.
His Holiness said that one must work in society with a motive of helping and benefiting others and that it is the real religion.
His Holiness also said that compassion and kindness are virtues that can benefit others and that they should be practiced no matter whether one believes in religion or not.
His Holiness said that Bon as a religious tradition is very important to the Tibetan people.
