Jammu – Fourteen labourers, including three Tibetan refugees and a Nepali, were killed and 16 injured when a Border Roads Organisation truck carrying them fell into a stream in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Twelve were killed on the spot and two others died in a hospital. The incident occurred on 225 km Leh-Kargil highway at Phang area.

The driver is reported to have lost control of the vehicle. Satish Nehru, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, visited the site of the accident.

No respite from cold wave

There was no respite from the cold wave. For the first time after three days, the down convoy movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway 1 A was allowed.

However, on Thursday no up-convoy movement was allowed on the highway to allow one-way vehicular movement.

A heavy cloud cover and a thick layer of fog hovered over the highway and there was fresh snowfall at places such as Patnitop, Banihal and Qazikund along the stretch.
