Amaravati, January 5 – Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama Thursday said the future of Tibet would depend on the initiative of the Tibetan people living there.
Addressing Tibetan Buddhist monks and pilgrims while launching Kalachakra, the 12-day global conclave of Buddhist monks and pilgrims, he said the real disciples of the initiation programme were those living in Tibet.
“The Tibetans living in Tibet are less fortunate than their counterparts living in India as they have to suffer a lot in their motherland. They are living in sorrow and there is hardly any single family which is not affected by this tragedy,” he said, referring to the Chinese control over Tibet.
The Dalai Lama, who heads a Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, said: “Even in this age when the Tibetan people are suffering a lot of difficulties, they continue to be civilised because they have the spirit of enthusiasm which keeps them going.”
About 1,000 Tibetan are among 40,000 monks and pilgrims attending the spiritual enlightenment programme being held in this town near Guntur.
