Hyderabad – Buddhist monks from around the world will congregate at Amaravati, the cradle of Mahayana school of thought, for the ‘Kalachakra’from January five to 16, coinciding with the 2,550th anniversary of Lord Buddha.
His Holiness Dalai Lama would offer the Kalachakra Empowerment for the 30th time in his life at Amaravati, where Lord Buddha, according to scriptures, revealed the ‘Kalachakra’, said Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister K Rosaiah and Tourism Minister J Geeta Reddy, members of the Cabinet sub-committe in-charge of the event here yesterday.
The State Government had sanctioned Rs 52.64 crore for for the event including a Dhyana Buddha Centre, accomodation, laying and improvement of roads and provision of drinking water, Mr Rosaiah said. In view of the Maoist threat, anti-sabotage check would be conducted, he added.
The Busshokai Centre of Kanazawa, Japan was organising the Kalachakra through the Himachal Pradesh-based Norbulingka Institute, in coordination with the State Government at Amaravati, where a grand ”Stupa” of Ashoka’s times, stood as a testimony to the spread of Buddhism from the Andhra Desa of yore to the Far East and South East Asian countries, Ms Reddy said.
Kalachakra Tantra is the most profound and complex of all Buddhist tantric teachings and has been preserved in India and Tibet for the last 2,500 years.
