Dharamshala December 10 – Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche expressed his sadness over the continuing reports of violation of human rights in the world even in the 21st century, particularly in Tibet.
Rinpoche said that it is a mater of worry that there had been cases of unrests in Drepung and other major monastic universities of Tibet recently in what is called the ‘patriotic reeducation campaign’. Rinpoche urged the concerned authorities of China to immediately put an end to the ‘patriotic reeducation campaign’ which led to unrests in Drepung monastery. The Kashag today, in comparison to its press release earlier on the Drepung unrest, seemed much certain of the reports of unrests in Tibet.
The prime minister of the exile Tibetan government was addressing a gathering to mark the sixteenth anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Rinpoche expressed his government and his people’s greetings to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
As the Tibetans all over the world celebrate the day the exile Tibetan government’s headquarters in the northern Indian hilltown exile marked it with much festivity.
Hundreds attended an official function at the Tsuglakhang courtyard, to join the celebrations of the awarding of the prestigious laurel to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1989.
Rinpoche reiterated his government’s commitment to the Middle Way Approach in resolving the Tibet issue but said the outcome will depend on the people’s support and the atmosphere for dialogue.
Meanwhile, Ms. Gyari Dolma, the deputy chairperson of the exile Tibetan parliament, said that even as the world observes the human rights day Tibet issue remains the world’s oldest unresolved dispute.
She expressed the parliament’s gratitude to His Holiness for his leadership. She thanked the Indian supporters for their initiative to hold International Himalayan Festival every year on this day.
Cultural performances by Tibetan organizations, schools and Indian community added much fanfare to the gala event.
