Dharamshala December 1 – Reacting to the news report (“McCartney attacks China over fur,” Nov. 28) on phayul, Jason Baker, the Director, Hongkong based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Asia-Pacific, has expressed his pleasure over the growing awareness about the fur industry’s dirty secrets. Jason appreciated former Beatle Paul McCartney’s outburst on China’s fur market and his promise of never performing in China.

In a letter to phayul, Jason has said that Cat and dog fur is intentionally mislabeled-marketed as “Asian wolf” or “mountain cat,” or simply “real fur”-and sold to unsuspecting consumers.

Jason said that cats and dogs languishing in tiny cages-some lethargic or frightened, some with open wounds and runny eyes, some still wearing their collars can be seen in China.

“If you wear fur, even just a little trim on a jacket, you are supporting this gruesome trade. The solution is simple: Refuse to buy or wear real fur”, Jason said.

“We may not be able to do everything to stop animal suffering, but we can stop this.”
