Dharamshala, November 30 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama has congratulated H. E. Ghulam Nabi Azad on assuming the office of the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.
In his congratulatory message yesterday, His Holiness says “I have always been concerned by the situation in Kashmir and the violence that has been going on for decades, very evident by the most recent bomb blast in Srinagar. The situation still seems volatile and I can well imagine the daunting and difficult task that lies ahead of you. I want to wish you success.”
Expressing his best wishes, His Holiness further says “the people of Kashmir have suffered a great deal, but I am encouraged by the recent improvement in the situation in your region. I am confident that you will push forward this process, which will greatly benefit the people of Kashmir.”
Mr. Azad was sworn in as chief minister at a ceremony at Srinagar on 2 November 2005. He succeeded Mr. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
