Washington – The Dalai Lama has addressed an audience at the MCI Center Sunday, and not everyone in attendance was happy about his speech.
Tibet’s spiritual leader told the group – consisting of many from the Society for Neuroscience – that science is particularly important because it reaches both the religious and nonreligious.
He says that science and can also help identify the factors and forces that promote well-being.
The Dalai Lama wouldn’t take sides in the debate about the teaching of intelligent design and evolution in U.S. classrooms.
However, he says the more discussion about the subject, the better. The speech drew objections from more than 500 members of the society who signed a petition in protest.
They question the Dalai Lama’s scientific qualifications to address a scientific meeting as well as his politically charged leadership.
