Dharamshala October 30 – The Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) opened another chapter in Varanasi on 28th Oct. with the election of 8 executive members – all students studying in the Sarnath Tibetan Institute for Higher studies.
This is the first time in the history of TWA that a chapter was established among student community. A function was held on 27th Oct. at the Institute where the students participated in an interactive question and answer session with the president and general secretary of TWA. Every questions and doubts posed by the students were satisfactorily answered for.
A formal function was then held on 29th October after the election of executive members was completed on the day before.
The first leaders of the RTWA Varanasi were honored at the function. The event follows a workshop held in Varanasi last year when the TWA president had the opportunity to meet the students and introduced them to the aims and objectives of the organisation which provided lot of information to the otherwise uninformed students about the workings of TWA.
The Tibetan Women’s Uprising was also held for the first time in Varanasi this year by the students to commemorate the sacrifices of brave Tibetan women martyrs who laid their lives on March 12, 1959 for the Tibetan cause.
