Dharamshala October 28 – The European Parliament demanded the immediate release of Trulku Tenzin Delek and asked the government of People’s Republic of China to step up the ongoing process of dialogue with the representatives of the Dalai Lama to reach a mutually acceptable solution to the Tibet issue without further delay.
In a resolution passed yesterday in Strasbourg, France, the European Parliament argues that the offences against Trulku and his aide Lobsang Dhondup who was executed were not proven in the court of law. The resolution charged China of not allowing independent observers to visit Trulku. The resolution called on the responsible authorities to take all possible steps to improve the living conditions and health of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
Meanwhile, a nephew of Trulku has thanked the EP for its efforts to release Trulku Tenzin Delek. Lobsang Tsering appeals the international community to exert pressure on China for an immediate release of his uncle. Lobsang told phayul that his uncle was framed under arbitrary charges by the Chinese authorities who feared his growing popularity. “Rinpoche had always worked for the poor and the underprivileged, stood by the principles of the Buddha dharma and always respected the law”, says an angry Lobsang who has also started his own campaign to draw people’s support to his mission of freeing the Tibetan spiritual master. He clarifies, however, that his fight is not because of his being a nephew of Trulku but because he supports truth.
The European Parliament demanded that the Chinese Government allow Manfred Nowak, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, during his inspection visit to China from 21 November to 2 December 2005, to visit Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and report on his state of health.
While appreciating the commutation of the death sentence on Trulku Tenzin Delek to a life sentence the EP urged the Chinese government to cancel all sentences against Trulku Tenzin Delek and release him.
