Dharamshala, October 27 – Though it was already announced that the US plan to resettle Tibetan refugees in Nepal focuses on Tibetan population who have been living in Nepal and who still do not have proper residential permit and those Tibetans who had participated in the volunteer force, yet there are many rumors and disinformation spread across the Tibetan communities.
We hear reports that some groups have been listing names and issuing support letters. And some people who usually do not bother to update the green book registration are now updating their green book and some are even applying for the new book. All these will not serve any good and it is mere wastage of their time, energy and money to indulge in these things with a motive to become a part of this refugee admission programme.
The Kashag urged Tibetans all over India not to get carried away by these sorts of gossips and rumors and not to engage in doing imprudent things. Every Tibetan should feel it as his or her bounden duty to update their green book and apply for a new one if they don’t have any.
Following is the announcement from the Kashag to the Tibetan community to make things clear on these important issues.
- The US Administration has decided to take the Tibetans in Nepal who do not have either Nepalese citizenship or proper residential permit and those Tibetan who had participated in the volunteer force. The requirement or criteria for the selection are not yet formulated.
- Once the requirements are formulated, the Central Tibetan Administration and the US Administration will verify whether the people whose names are enlisted in the list given to the US government conform to the requirements.
- Those people who do not come under the above categories will not become a part of this refugee admission programme and it is useless to produce any supporting letters.
