General Secretary of the CCP Central Committee and State President Hu Jintao recently sent a greeting letter on the completion of track-laying for Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The full text of his letter reads as follows:
The Ministry of Railways, party committees and people’s governments of Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous Region, and all cadres, staff members and workers taking part in the construction of Qinghai-Tibet Railway:
The completion of track-laying for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is a major achievement of socialist modernized construction of our country. It is of great significance to implementing the strategy of great development of the western region, accelerating economic and social development in Qinghai and Tibet, improving the living conditions of people of various nationalities along the railway, strengthening national unity, and jointly realizing the grand goal of building a well-off society [Chinese: xiao kang she hui] in an all-round way. On behalf of the party Central Committee and the State Council, I wish to express my warm greetings and cordial regards!
Building the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is a major policy decision made by the party Central Committee and the State Council based on the overall need of promoting large-scale development of the west region and realizing the joint prosperity of people of various nationalities of our country. Building this highest and longest railway on the plateau is a magnificent endeavour unprecedented in the history of railway construction of mankind.
Over the past four years, various units and the broad masses of cadres and workers persisted in taking scientific development outlook as guidance, carried forward the spirit of challenging the ultimate limit and marching forward to accomplish the first-rate task, worked hard with indomitable spirit, advanced in a pioneering way, overcame difficulties in a valiant manner, and victoriously and successfully completed the track-laying task for the railway. You have written down a new chapter in the history of railway building of our country.
It is hoped that you would continue your efforts from victory to victory, do a good job in supplementary work and preparations for the operation of the railway with high standard and quality, fully achieve the goal of building the world’s top class plateau railway, ensure the operation of the railway as planned, bring benefits to people of various nationalities along the railway, and make new contributions to building a well-off society in an all-round way and accelerating the socialist modernization drive.
