Dharamshala October 10 – The model school for the new education policy of the 12th Kashag was inaugurated here today. At the official function to inaugurate the school, Kalon Tripa of the exile Tibetan administration was the chief guest. Also present were members of the Kashag, officials of the exile Tibetan government, students and parents, and the staff of the new school.
Kalon Tripa in his address to the gathering said that he is pleased that the department of education has started the school. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche told the gathering that the Tibetan people have the responsibility to make the education policy a success story.
Much has been said about the pros and cons of the education policy but the 12th Kashag’s initiative got a go ahead from the Tibetan parliament which approved the policy.
Critics say that the policy is reflection of personal ideas and views of the Kalon Tripa, a Ghandian. But those who favour it are of the view that such education policy is a success story for the likes of the Krishnamurthy Foundation.
The educational courses in the school will be in the learners’ mother tongue Tibetan. The school is a model for other schools which will be nurturing nests for future Tibetans. The children at these schools will be educated under a policy guided principally by Buddhist principles of honesty, non violence, compassion and kindness.
The school is located at the old premise of a closed down institute of Tibetan traditional metal works (Ten – sheng) near the lower Tibetan Children’s Village School. Around 60 Tibetan children have been enrolled from various Tibetan settlements.
