Dharamshala October 8 – Despite heavy rains earlier in the day and absence of any contest for this year’s Miss Tibet crown, the crowning ceremony kicked off amid mixed response from the public who gathered to witness the event. The 22 year old college student fro Delhi University Tenzin Nyima was crowned at a glittering ceremony here.

Lobsang Wangyal, the producer of the event, appeared in his characteristic pink suit and welcomed the lone contender on the stage. As usual, Wangyal used the platform to express his views on various issues ranging from politics to colloquial Tibetan.

The SFT activists who held a banner “no Olympic in China until Tibet is free” in Beijing condemning the awarding of 2008 Olympics to China were honoured with the Free Spirit Award. The SFT India president received the award on their behalf.

The newly crowned Miss Tibet told the audience that she is privileged to be awarded the title saying that it is a great opportunity to prove herself and be neck and neck with the women of other countries.
