New Justice Secretary Sworn in

Dharamshala September 29 – The Tibetan Chief Justice Commissioner Namgyal Tsering today swore in Ngawang Chodak as the new Secretary of Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission. Chodak was earlier administrative secretary of the Department of Security. At a swearing – in ceremony here, Chodak took the oath of office in the presence of the staff of the highest judiciary body of the Tibetan exile government.

Chodak started his service to the Tibetan government in 1975 as an accountant at the Tibetan Cooperative Society of Orrisa Tibetan settlement. Chodak has held various posts in the Tibetan government. He was former director of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, former additional secretary of the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat, former chief representative of the southern Tibetan settlements. Besides, he has also served the exile Tibetan government in various other capacities.

Chodak said that he will work towards helping the poor get justice which was the main motive of His Holiness’ setting up the commission. Chodak became one of the few government officials to serve in all the three pillars of Tibetan democracy.

Chodak will assume office on October 1, 2005.
