New Delhi, September 25 – Freedom is the most important need of every human being and the Tibet issue can never be resolved without ensuring freedom to the Tibetan people, said Shri Brij Bhushan Tiwari, a socialist leader. Shri Tiwari was the chief guest at the inaugural day of the convention of India Tibet Friendship Society in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.
Shri Tiwari urged the Indian government to facilitate an unconditional dialogue between China and Tibet, said a press release issued by the India Tibet Friendship Society.
Prof. P.K.Sarkar, a noted historian and a professor, remarked that ignoring the warnings of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel, Dr. Ambedkar, Dr. Lohia and Jai Prakash Narayan has proved very costly for India’s national security. There is a need for Tibet to get back its status of a ‘buffer state” between India and China for peace in southeast Asia, he argued.
There were also presentations by Choekyong Wangchuk of India Tibetan Coordination Office and Himalayan Buddhist leader Ven. Gurucharan Singh Negi. Professor Anand Kumar (National General Secretary, India-Tibet Friendship Society) said in his valedictory address that restoring freedom
of Tibet will best secure India’s northern frontiers. It will also restore the real significance of Kailash-Mansarovar which is under Chinese control, Kumar said.
A resolution urging the government of India and China to check environmental destruction of Tibet was passed at the convention. The resolution also urged the government of the People’s Republic of China to release Panchen Lama and Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
The convention was attended by over 120 delegates from various places.
