Rome, Italy September 20 – The Tibetan community of Italy in association with Italy Tibet association and campagna di solidarieta con popolo tibetana protested against the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the constitution of the so called Tibetan Autonomous Region under China. Rome, Bergamo and Milano witnessed a strong outburst of Tibetan anger during the celebrations.
The celebration attempted to propagate the PRC’s preservation of the Tibetan culture and high living standard of the Tibetans under Beijing regime. In conjunction with the Italy China foundation, China organised a weeklong propaganda and dissemination of wrong statistics and lies about the condition of Tibet. 32 artistes performed the so called “ traditional Tibetan dances” entitled magic world which was not even in the vicinity of being called Tibetan. For the Tibetans there was nothing to celebrate but to retrospect the five decades of repression and violation of Tibetan people’s human rights.
On Friday 16th sep many Tibetans and some Tibet support groups gathered outside teatro argentina with tibetan national flags, distributed leaflets informing the real political situation of Tibet. Slogans condemning the illegal occupation was shouted.
Meanwhile, a Tibetan activist interrupted the opening speech of the president of Italy China foundation Cesare Romiti and the Chinese Ambassadors with slogans of free Tibet.
In another incident, a Tibetan woman shouted protests against China. Many from the audience left the show in solidarity with the Tibetan people. The woman was driven out by the security from the half empty hall.
There were more protests and display of anger by the Tibetans in the audience later on.
