We regret to inform you that the Tibet Information Network (TIN) has had to close down for lack of funds. TIN was started in the late 1980s and rapidly became the leading independent provider of news on Tibet, as well as a prime source of more detailed research.
Its success has been based on a wide network of support, and we would like to thank all those who have worked with us over the years. First and foremost, are the Tibetans inside and outside Tibet who have provided us with information, often at considerable personal risk. At the same time, we would like to thank TIN’s staff members and network of volunteers; and we remain deeply grateful to the funders who have supported us for as long as they have.
TIN’s legacy will include its published news updates and reports. These will remain in the public domain as testimony to the rapid process of change that has taken place in Tibet in the last decade and a half. Since TIN started, a number of other news and research organizations have expanded their own coverage of contemporary Tibet: we hope that they will be able to fill the gap that TIN leaves. At the same time, we must stress that TIN has no formally designated successor organization.
