HAILEY, Idaho – Some people are turning to the Hailey Post Office for souvenirs of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Idaho.
And the Post Office is coming through. Five-thousand commemorative envelopes, all featuring a special postmark, are for sale for five dollars each. That includes the cost of a stamp.
Linda Olson is the Hailey Post Office supervisor. She says it’s tradition to offer a postmark for special events, and that the souvenir is for both those who attend the Dalai Lama’s speech and those who can’t make it.
The Tibetan Buddhist leader will be visiting the Wood River Valley for several days beginning this weekend. He plans a major public address on Sunday.
