Dharamshala, August 24 – The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) yesterday hailed the motion on Tibet passed recently by the Regional Parliament of Terentino-South Tyrol, Italy, as “an expression of international support for the non-violent struggle of the Tibetan people for greater freedom and restoration of human rights in Tibet”.
Acknowledging receipt of a copy of the motion, in a communication to the president of the parliament, Dr. Mario Magnai, Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche further says that the re-establishment of contacts between the Chinese authorities and Dharamshala is realised largely because of international support.
Reiterating the position of the CTA, Kalon Tripa also says that his administration is making “sincere attempts to ensure that these contacts grow into serious negotiations that will resolve the issue of Tibet peacefully on the basis of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Middle-Way Approach of not seeking independence for Tibet but for the whole of Tibet to operate as one administrative unit within a prosperous People’s Republic of China.”
The regional parliament of the autonomous Terentino-South Tyrol passed a motion on Tibet by majority votes on 5 July.
The motion urges the Office of Presidency and the Regional Government to:
- To strengthen the bonds of friendship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration.
- To continue in the action of information and sensitisation, with the help of all municipalities, the students and the associations of the region, in order to inform about the situation of Tibet.
- To support the initiatives and the bonds of cooperation and humanitarian aid, directly supported or pursued by non- governmental associations, for the Tibetan communities in Tibet or exile.
- To consider the possibility to display the Tibetan flag in a special place every year on 10th March.
- To inform about the real political and social conditions of the women in Tibet.
