Dharamshala July 12- The Congressional Human Rights Caucus and Co-Chairs Tom Lantos and Frank Wolf are hosting a screening and discussion on the human rights situation for Tibetan exiles on Thursday July 14, 2005 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 2172 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC. The screening is open to the general public. “Dreaming of Tibet” is a film about the resilience of the human spirit under the direst circumstances.
Winner of the 2004 Silver Audience Award at the Amnesty International Film Festival and featuring His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Author/Climber Jon Krakauer, with appearances by Richard Gere and Goldie Hawn. Examining the lives of three extraordinary Tibetan refugees who survived in exile and devoted their lives to the continuation of their culture, “Dreaming of Tibet” captures the impossible challenges Tibetan refugees face while conveying the sense of hope these remarkable people bring to their daily lives in spite of such great hardships and loss.
Following the film, a brief panel discussion will take place, featuring film subjects and other issues related to Tibet. Taking part in the discussion are Tseten Phanucharas, political activist and one of the press coordinators for the Dalai Lama’s Los Angeles visits, Tsering Lhamo, nurse for Tibetan communities-in-exile in Kathmandu, Nepal and Dharamsala, India, Will Parrinello- producer and director of “Dreaming of Tibet”.
