ATPD Member Appointed TCHRD Director

Dharamshala July 11 – Mr. Ugyen Tenzin, a member of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies, became the third Executive Director of the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD). He was selected after an interview with a panel appointed by its board of directors. Mr. Ugyen Tenzin has a vast experience of working in the exile Tibetan community in various capacities.

Mr. Ugyen Tenzin finished his Bachelor’s Degree from Government College for Men, Chandigarh, in 1985. Later, he obtained a Post Graduate degree in Sociology from Mysore University in 1994. From 1991-1993, he served as the Secretary of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Mundgod. From 1994-1997, he served as the Vice-Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly of Mungod and from 1997 to 2000, as the Chairman of the same. He was later re-elected as Chairman in 2001.

In June 2001, he got elected to the 13th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD) from the U-Tsang provincial constituency. He served as a member of the Standing Committee of ATPD for three years from June 2002 to June 2005.

TCHRD is a registered non-governmental human rights organisation established in 1996. The Centre was formed to promote and protect human rights of Tibetans inside Tibet and to educate the exile Tibetan community on human rights and democracy. TCHRD is based in Dharamsala.
All the members of the Board of Directors, staff members and volunteers of TCHRD extended a very warm welcome to Mr. Ugyen Tenzin who assumed office on July 1.
