New Kalpakkam, June 25 – It is exactly six month after the deadly Tsunami deserted the lives of many. And one of them were the fishermen of New Kalpakkam, a small town on the East Coast Road nearly 80km from Chennai. As time takes its own events many have forgotten about it yet, the members of Voluntary Social Service of Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies are back again to help the affected people.

There is no crowd as it used to be in Jan, nor constant relief supply of food and other necessities. The town looks dull when Tashi and Jigme member of VSS stepped in to the town form East Coast Road. Yet the saplings they had planted were fresh and grown little higher. The school buildings and thatch houses were filled with people and look same as they were after they built in Jan. As they saw some local fishermen they start calling “ Tashi”..

They have visited this town in January for immediate relief after the Tsunami flushed every thing followed by another relief camp where they built more than 30 temporary thatch shelters for the victims. And now they are back, this time it is neither building of shelter nor provision of basic necessities. “ We came back to provide them a new source of livelihood which the people asked for during our previous visit. That is we have provided them Sewing machines. The women of this town will be trained in sewing and stitching. This can be a new source of life and it will definitely help them in long term. This project is funded by Tibetan Community Britain through Voluntary Social Service of CIHTS, Varanasi.

The town Panchayat penned in there thank note “ Since we are unable to return to our profession, this project will support us to take a new path to our profession. We thanks each and every member of Tibetan Community, Britain and finally for our friend, Mr Tashi for his consistently help.”

While handing over the new Sawing machines to the village Panchayat Mr. Tashi expressed his gratitude to Mr. Tseten Samdup (Chairman)Tibetan Community in Britain,Mr Tsering Passang { London} and Mrs. Riga Wangyal (President)UK Tibetan Women’s Association for making this project a success.
